ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Design and Specification of Instruments and Systems


  1. Selection and Specification: Choosing appropriate instruments, control systems, and components based on the project requirements (temperature, pressure, flow, level sensors, etc.).


  1. System Design: Designing instrumentation layouts and control systems, including wiring diagrams, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and loop diagrams.


  1. Control Strategies: Designing control strategies for complex systems, ensuring proper integration between various devices and equipment.


2. Installation and Commissioning


  1. Installation Planning: Overseeing the installation of instrumentation systems, ensuring they are set up according to specifications and safety standards.
  2. Commissioning: Ensuring that all instruments and systems are functioning properly, performing tests, calibration, and adjustments.
  3. Documentation: Creating detailed documentation on installation procedures, system  configurations, and equipment for future reference.


3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting


  1. Routine Maintenance: Developing and implementing maintenance schedules for the instruments and control systems to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  2. Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and fixing faults in control systems and instruments, using tools like PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA systems to identify issues.
  3. Calibration: Regularly calibrating instruments to ensure accuracy and precision.


4. System Integration and Automation


  1. Automation Control Systems: Designing and integrating automated control systems to optimize process performance (e.g., Distributed Control Systems (DCS), SCADA).
  2. Communication Protocols: Ensuring seamless communication between field instruments, PLCs, and control systems using industry-standard communication protocols (Modbus,HART, Profibus, etc.).


5. Process Optimization and Control

  1. Performance Analysis: Analyzing data from instruments to monitor the performance of the system and suggest improvements. Process Control: Implementing feedback control loops (PID controllers) and other strategies to optimize system performance, ensuring desired parameters are maintained.


6. Compliance and Safety


  1. Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that instrumentation and control systems comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety codes (e.g., ISA, IEC).
  2. Safety Instrumented Systems: Designing and implementing safety systems (e.g., emergency shutdown systems, SIL-rated systems) to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation.


7. Documentation and Reporting

  1. System Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive documentation of all instrumentation and control systems, including wiring diagrams, calibration records, and maintenance logs.
  2. Reporting: Preparing reports for project stakeholders, highlighting system performance, issues encountered, and solutions implemented.


8. Collaboration and Communication


  1. Cross-functional Teamwork: Collaborating with other engineers (mechanical, electrical, process engineers), project managers, and technicians to achieve project goals.


  1. Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to understand their requirements and provide technical support during the design, commissioning, and troubleshooting stages.


9. Project Management


  1. Scheduling and Budgeting: Managing the timeline and budget for instrumentationrelated activities in a project.


  1. Procurement: Coordinating the purchase and delivery of instrumentation equipment, ensuring everything meets project specifications and timelines.


10. Desirable Skills and Qualifications


  1. Bachelors in Engineering or any related Technological Field
  2. 5 to 8 Years of relevant work experience with Instrumentation especially in the oil and gas industry.
  3. Proven technical and analytical skills to quickly investigate and resolve issues with Instruments, valves and other filed Devices
  4. Experience with the Oil and Gas Environments
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of validation requirements for field instruments
